BIOGRAPHY

Kisha Tikina Burgos 

​

    Writer, actress, director, producer and professor born in Barranquitas, Puerto Rico. Kisha has managed to create a narrative of her own in both her films and theater. 

​

    She completed a master's degree (MFA) in Dramatic Writing from Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, (NYU). Her strong educational background also includes (BFA) at The University of Puerto Rico, Department of Humanities with a concentration in Theater. Graduate Studies in Mason Gross School of the Arts, Acting Department at Rutgers University, New Jersey (Sanford “Meisner Acting Technique”). Screenwriting Workshop in the International School of Film and TV in San Antonio de los Baños, Habana, Cuba.

    She was part of the Visual and Performing Arts Department Faculty at Hostos Community College, City University of New York (CUNY) where she taught courses in Theater, Acting and Public Speaking. She also teaches theater and film courses at the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus and at the School of Arts and Design in San Juan, PR.

   Kisha is the author, producer and actress of the awarded films "Antes que cante el gallo"/ Before the Rooster Crows (2016) and Under My Nails (2011). 

Kisha is the screenwriter for TV series in Telemundo, FOX, and Netflix, "NICKY JAM: EL GANADOR" (about the life of the regueton singer, Nicky Jam). She is the Head Writer, Showrunner and one of the Directors of the Youtube/Google TV series "BRAVAS".

 

    Kisha has a trajectory of more than 20 years in theater as an actor, writer, director and producer. Her produced shows as a playwright include: "Anoche soñé que me comías", "Nívea del encanto", "La memoria de los elefantes"- Staged Reading at Cherry Lane Theater NYC, 2018 and published by Editorial Educadora Emergente, 2013. "La gran desilusión", "Mujeres ante el espejo" de Myrna Báez, "Enjaula" and "Tuya". Kisha has represented Puerto Rico in international theater festivals such as: Londrina International Theater Festival, Brasil (FILO), Santo Domingo International Theater Festival, Dominican Republic and Cadiz Iberoamerican Theater Festival, Spain (FIT), among others.

   Today Kisha is developing her next feature films: "La gran desilusión" and The Pill. She is also working in the TV Series In My Blood and the Theater Project "365 días, 365 obras" (working title). About this last project, Kisha was inspired in Suzan-Lori-Parks book: 365 Days, 365 Plays and decided to write a daily short play during the year 2017. Currently she is working on the publication of her 365 short plays and a Theater Festival in which several theater groups, directors and actors will perform the short plays.
